MC-IF Brings Multi-CDN VVC Live Streaming Demonstration to IBC 2026

Amsterdam demonstration will show how VVC and CMMF can improve streaming resilience across variable network conditions

AMSTERDAM — Sept. 11, 2026 — The Media Coding Industry Forum (MC-IF) will demonstrate a standards-based approach to more resilient live streaming at IBC 2026, showing how Versatile Video Coding (VVC/H.266) and Common Media Multi-Source Format (CMMF) can work together to maintain service continuity when individual content delivery network or network paths become impaired.

The demonstration delivers the same VVC live stream to two Android playback devices under simulated network conditions. One device relies on conventional single-source delivery, while the second uses CMMF to reconstruct the stream using multiple CDN or network paths.

The side-by-side demonstration is designed to illustrate how multi-source delivery can improve continuity when network conditions deteriorate while taking advantage of the compression efficiency provided by VVC.

By combining VVC with CMMF, the demonstration highlights a standards-based approach for delivering high-quality live video more reliably across heterogeneous network environments. The architecture can distribute delivery across multiple sources rather than depending on a single CDN or network path, providing greater resilience as streaming services encounter changing network conditions.

The IBC demonstration also illustrates the expanding role of open media standards in addressing operational challenges associated with large-scale streaming. As live video services reach viewers across increasingly diverse fixed, mobile and other network environments, maintaining consistent service quality can require delivery architectures capable of adapting to congestion, outages and other network impairments.

“IBC provides an ideal environment to demonstrate how emerging media standards can address practical streaming challenges,” said Frederic Gabin, Director of Mobile Technologies and Standards, Dolby. “Bringing VVC and CMMF together allows us to show how compression efficiency and multi-source delivery can complement one another to create a more resilient live streaming environment.”

MC-IF will demonstrate the technology during IBC 2026 in Amsterdam, Sept. 11-14, at Hall 2–2.B13.
